Following the closure of its standalone service, Nordic streamer Viaplay makes its debut on Amazon's Prime Video Channels in the United States
Viaplay's acclaimed streaming service, renowned for its array of award-winning Scandinavian series and films, has now made its debut as an add-on subscription on Amazon's Prime Video Channels in the United States.
Effective Wednesday, U.S. Prime members can access Viaplay for $5.99 per month (with a seven-day free trial available for eligible customers) through Prime Video Channels.
In February, Viaplay ceased its standalone app and direct-to-consumer streaming service operations in the U.S. and Canada, redirecting its focus on international expansion through strategic partnerships. Viaplay is already accessible in North America through platforms such as Comcast Xfinity, the Roku Channel, and Xumo.
Viaplay's U.S. content catalog spotlights Nordic region's renowned series and films, spanning atmospheric crime dramas, provocative young-adult series, award-winning dramas, and compelling documentaries.
Currently, Viaplay's U.S. offerings feature Lars Mikkelsen in "Face to Face," a gripping interrogative drama; "Fenris," exploring mysterious disappearances in a wolf-inhabited forest; "Trom," a mysterious narrative set in the picturesque Faroe Islands; "Detective Maria Kallo," adapted from the bestselling book series; "DNA," a Danish police drama co-starring Charlotte Rampling; and "Black Sands," a dark Icelandic mystery. Additionally, Viaplay presents the acclaimed Millennium/The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.
Among the young-adult series on Viaplay are dramas like "Threesome" and "Delete Me," alongside the LGBTQ coming-of-age short-form series "One of the Boys." Notable dramas include "The Architect," an award-winning dystopian dramedy starring Eili Harboe, and "The Dreamer – Becoming Karen Blixen," featuring Connie Nielsen. Viaplay's documentary lineup includes "The Most Remote Restaurant in the World," "Crime Scene Sweden," and "Liv Ullmann: A Road Less Traveled."
Upcoming content on Viaplay in the U.S. includes "Börje – The Journey of a Legend," a six-part Swedish-English drama series about NHL icon Börje Salming. Additionally, Viaplay will feature "Furia" Season 2, "Gold Run," and "Murderesses."
Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Group EVP for Viaplay Select and Content Distribution, emphasized the universal appeal of Nordic and European content through the distribution deal with Prime Video Channels, making these titles more accessible to U.S. viewers than ever before.
